Yangyang Songi Festival is a festival dedicated to Yangyang’s famed specialty, pine mushrooms, held at the end of September to early October each year around Namdaecheon Stream and the production sites of this delectable mushroom. Yangyang’s pine mushrooms are renowned for their exquisite texture and fragrance that make them stand out even among pine mushrooms, as they grow in natural conditions on pine roots 20 to 60 years old, giving them their characteristic fragrance of pine resin. Yangyang Songi Festival offers many experience programs and art and cultural events themed after pine mushrooms. Mushroom hunt, a program where participants go through the mountains and forests in search of pine mushrooms, is always a popular mainstay of the program. Other programs include the shiitake picking experience, where visitors pick about 1 kg of mushrooms to take with them to shiitake mushroom production sites in the region, and ecology experiences, where visitors learn how Yangyang’s pine mushrooms are grown. Direct sales markets offer quality products to visitors, while the food truck zone and the VIP restaurants offer fresh and delectable dishes made from pine mushrooms.
